 What are Ubersmith's system requirements?
Solution Operating System

Ubersmith can run on a variety of Linux and BSD based operating systems. For ease of installation, we suggest either:

Ubersmith has been reported to run properly on many other operating systems, such as Ubuntu, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, FreeBSD, and Mac OS X.

Ubersmith is currently
not compatible with Microsoft Windows (any version) or Solaris. Please note, we do not suggest Debian unstable for the reasons outlined here.

To access an Ubersmith instance, however, you need only have a recent copy of your preferred web browser. The requirements above are only for hosting the Ubersmith application.

Web Server

Ubersmith requires the
Apache web server. Apache is used to serve the PHP documents to your web browser. Apache version 2.x is suggested. Ubersmith has been reported to function with other web servers, such as LigHTTPD, however this configuration is not supported by Ubersmith.

Database

Ubersmith requires the
MySQL database software. A MySQL database is used to store your customer and device data. MySQL 5.x is suggested as it has additional support for some of the internationalization features present in Ubersmith.

PHP

PHP is the programming language that Ubersmith is written in. Having PHP available is required for Ubersmith to function properly. Fortunately, most operating systems have PHP available in a pre-compiled package that is easy to install. Ubersmith can currently run on PHP 4 and PHP 5. PHP 5 is suggested for new installs, as the PHP group will be ending support for PHP 4 in late 2008.

The list of required modules for Ubersmith is as follows:

mysql

gd
xmlrpc
mbstring
mcrypt
gettext
iconv
curl

Control Panel

While not required, Ubersmith can function well on servers using the cPanel/WHM and InterWorx control panels. Plesk, Ensim, and DirectAdmin are not recommended for hosting Ubersmith.

For detailed instructions on how to install Ubersmith on your operating system of choice, please see the related articles in the Ubersmith General category of the knowledgebase.
