You can edit a device from multiple places in the system. In the Device List, you can edit a device by clicking the link located at the end of the line of the device. From the View Device page, you may edit the device by clicking the Edit Device link in the Orange Action Bar.

Adding a new device into Ubersmith is split into several tabs:

Device Info

On this tab you will be asked to enter the following information:

Device Description: This is the primary identifier for the device, which will be displayed in the device list and device details.

Parent Device: To better organize your network, you can select a parent device to the device you are adding. A common use of the Parent Device field is to select the switch that a server is plugged in to.

Device Type: This lets you classify the type of device you are adding. These types can be configured in the Device Types section of Setup & Admin.

Location: This lets you choose where the device is physically located. These locations can be configured in the Locations section of Setup & Admin.

Label: This is an open field that many use to input a label that is attached to the machine. This is an optional field for some companies, as the device description can also serve as the label.

Ownership Info

On this tab you can select a client or service to associate the device with.  Begin by selecting the field you wish to search on and entering a search term.  When you hit the 'Search' button a list of matching clients will be displayed.

If the client you're looking for is not in the list you can try another search term, otherwise select the radio button next to their name to select the client.

At this point you may choose to associate the device with once of the client services by clicking a service in the list which will appear below.  To associate the device directly with the client select the option 'Do not Associate with a Service'

Configurable Fields

On this tab you may enter data into any custom device fields defined in the Device Information configuration section.

Comment

On this tab you may enter a comment for the device.  This will show up on the View Device page and under the comments tab for the device.

To save your changes to the client, click Save at the bottom of the popup window.
