Software Developer/Engineer

About You

We are seeking a software engineer to join our NYC-based team in building the premier billing and infrastructure automation software for cloud and hosting. You should be a highly motivated self-starter, excited by the opportunity to solve interesting and diverse problems and to share your experience and ideas with our engineering team.

We are a 16-person "startup" within a public company, so there is much less risk versus a typical startup. We have hundreds of happy customers and millions in dollars of growing, recurring revenue. 

Our location is in downtown NYC at 29 Broadway on the top floors with views of the Statue of Liberty and Governor's Island or on Nun's Island/Île des sœurs in Montreal. Office perks include free lunches and flexible working hours. 

Responsibilities

  • Work closely within a small, agile team to design, implement, and test Ubersmith's features
  • Operate within the coding requirements and guidelines of an agile team
  • Participate in refining and maintaining documentation
  • Keep up to date on product and industry knowledge

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of programming experience with PHP, particularly object-oriented
  • Proficiency in a LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL PHP) based architecture
  • Proficiency in AJAX, HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Proficiency in SQL
  • Experience with MVC frameworks such as CakePHP, Zend, CodeIgniter
  • Experience with API (REST, SOAP) design, development, and integration
  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented analysis, design, and programming
  • Excellent understanding of database modeling
  • Experience with source code management systems (specifically Subversion)
  • Creative problem-solving skills and an ability to apply business logic to development requirements
  • Basic Linux admin experience


Solutions Architect/Director of Solutions Architecture

New York, NY (or remote)

About You

The Solutions Architect plays a strategic role with our customers and within our overall organization. The SA is responsible for obtaining customer business and technical requirements and architecting a complete solution. The ideal candidate should be an experienced customer consultant with strong interpersonal skills and broad business, technical, and industry knowledge. 

The SA will report to the President of Ubersmith.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with both technical and non-technical customers, obtains relevant technical and business requirements, analyzes information and designs comprehensive solutions
  • Prepares and delivers engaging demos and technical presentations while leading product and technical Q&A as appropriate
  • Manages customer communications, conflicts, and negotiations related to overall solutions design
  • Develops visually rich and professional concept design documents targeted to audiences of diverse business and technical aptitude
  • Develops detailed specifications documentation when appropriate
  • Obtains customer acceptance to solution design
  • Guides customer through solution deployment process by validating built solution and providing solution walkthrough
  • Travels to client sites for onsite discovery, solution presentations and demos. Not expected to exceed 25%

Qualifications

  • Four year college degree (Business, Computer Information Systems, or similar degree preferred) or equivalent experience with demonstrated proficiency
  • Strong aptitude in communicating complex business and technical concepts using visualization and modeling aids.
  • Ability to conceptualize and design wireframes, workflows, and diagrams
  • Proficiency in SQL
  • Excellent presentation skills and verbal and written communication skills with technical, non-technical, end-user, and executive audiences
  • Experience in the cloud and/or software industries preferred
  • Familiarity with billing, device management, help desk, CRM and related software strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of key web, database, security, and other Ubersmith and Ubersmith-related technologies, standards, and concepts
